Alan McGaughey

Alan McGaughey is a Trustee Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. His research focuses on nanoscale transport phenomena, including the behavior of phonons, photons, electrons, and fluid particles. He develops and applies molecular- and meso-scale simulation techniques, collaborating with experimental groups. McGaughey received his Bachelor of Engineering from McMaster University, Master of Applied Science from the University of Toronto, and Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He joined Carnegie Mellon in 2005 after a post-doc at the University of Florida. His work has been recognized by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research Young Investigator Program and the Benjamin Richard Teare Teaching Award. He has also been voted Professor of the Year by Mechanical Engineering seniors multiple times.
