Regular biography
Frederike Dümbgen is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at Carnegie Mellon University, set to join the faculty in Spring 2026. Her research focuses on improving the efficiency and safety of robots and engineered systems through optimization and machine learning, with an emphasis on certifiable and globally optimal methods. She aims to develop principled foundations for next-generation robotics and intelligent machines. Dümbgen previously worked at Inria Paris as part of the Willow team since 2024 and was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto's Robotics Institute. She holds a Ph.D. in computer and communication sciences from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, along with B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in mechanical engineering from the same institution.
