Regular biography
Edward Rubin is the Alumni Chair Professor of Environmental Engineering and Science Emeritus at Carnegie Mellon University, affiliated with the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He holds joint appointments as professor emeritus in the Departments of Engineering and Public Policy (EPP) and Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on technical, economic, and policy issues related to energy and the environment, with an emphasis on climate change mitigation and control of pollutants from industrial and power generation sources. Rubin is known for pioneering the Integrated Environmental Control Model (IECM), a stochastic simulation model used globally for designing and evaluating cost-effective emission control systems for thermal power plants. He has served as an advisor to various state and federal government agencies and has been recognized with several awards, including the ASME Dixy Lee Ray Award for outstanding achievement in environmental protection. His work has significantly influenced energy and environmental policy discussions.
