John Orr

John Orr is a Professor of Structural Engineering at the University of Cambridge, Department of Civil Engineering. His research focuses on structures, with an emphasis on sustainable construction and improving productivity within the construction sector. Orr's work involves concrete structures, including new methods for analysis, optimisation, and automation in construction. He has secured research funding totalling £11.2M and was the first EPSRC Early Career Fellow in Structural Engineering in the UK. In 2022, he was awarded the Philip Leverhulme Prize in Engineering. Orr graduated with a first class MEng(hons) degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Bath in 2009 and completed a PhD in flexible formwork in 2012. Before joining Cambridge, he was Director of Research and Assistant Professor at the University of Bath Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
