Dr Robert Foster

Dr Robert Foster is a University Associate Professor in Structures at the University of Cambridge, Department of Engineering. His research focuses on structural analysis, sustainable structural design, and timber engineering. He explores methods to enhance the use of existing structures through assessment, retrofit, and extension, while promoting sustainable materials like engineered timber for urban infrastructure. Foster holds a BA in Philosophy from the University of Wales, Cardiff, and an MEng in Civil & Architectural Engineering from the University of Bath. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a structural engineer in London and completed a PhD at the University of Cambridge. He has also held positions as a post-doctoral Research Associate and Senior Teaching Associate at the University of Cambridge and as a Senior Lecturer in Structures at the University of Queensland.
