Marcus Benna

Marcus Benna is an Assistant Professor in the Department of BIO at the University of California, San Diego. His research focuses on computational and theoretical neuroscience, with an emphasis on neural data analysis, synaptic plasticity, learning and memory, and representational geometry. His work explores open problems in computational neuroscience, particularly concerning synaptic plasticity, memory consolidation, continual learning, and efficient coding. Using tools from theoretical physics, applied mathematics, machine learning, and data science, Benna investigates how biological computation overcomes resource constraints in the brain. His research aims to develop normative mathematical models of brain circuits that can be tested against experimental data.
