Regular biography
Alexander Sherstov is a professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of California, Los Angeles. His research focuses on theoretical computer science, with particular interests in computational complexity theory, computational learning theory, and quantum computing. Prior to joining UCLA, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Microsoft Research New England (2009–2011). He completed his Ph.D. in computer science at the University of Texas at Austin in 2009 under the supervision of Adam Klivans. His research and teaching have been recognized with several awards, including the Senate Distinguished Teaching Award (March 2021), the Northrop-Grumman Excellence in Teaching Award (August 2014), the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Research Fellowship (February 2014), and the NSF CAREER Award (November 2011).
