Regular biography
Geoffrey Newman is an Assistant Professor at The University of British Columbia, Department of ECON. His research focuses on macroeconomic theory, growth and development, and political economy. Newman's academic career has included affiliations with the University of Toronto, Drew University, the London School of Economics, and the University of California Santa Barbara. He has held positions such as Director of the Brussels Program at the Institute for European Studies, Universite Libre de Brussels, and President of the Economists of New Jersey. Newman first visited UBC in 1994 as an Associate Professor and returned permanently in 2002. His research explores the role of norms and institutions in economic coordination and macroeconomic theory, with notable work including studies on growth, search and matching theories, and the political economy of growth. He is also known for his contributions to classical music journalism and the launch of Vancouver Classical Music in 2014.
