Ashok Kotwal was a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Economics at The University of British Columbia. He taught Development Economics and Understanding Globalization. His research focused on the political economy of governance in developing countries, with an emphasis on development issues in India. He was Editor-in-Chief of the Bureau for Research and Economic Analysis in Development (BREAD), a Senior Fellow at Theoretical Research in Economic Development (ThRed), and associated with several research projects, including studies on food security and the impact of unique identification schemes on corruption in India. His work also included analyses of economic reforms, poverty, and government delivery systems.
