Mounir G. AbouHaidar

Mounir G. AbouHaidar is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Cell & Systems Biology at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on the molecular biology of plant and human viruses, including mechanisms of resistance and the development of transgenic plants resistant to viruses. His work also explores genome organization, self-splicing, and replication strategies of viruses and their satellite RNAs. Additionally, he investigates the molecular mechanisms of translation in pro- and eukaryotes, as well as the development of recombinant vaccines produced in plants. His research has contributed to the understanding of plant antiviral proteins for gene therapy applications and the development of vaccines against diseases such as hepatitis C virus.
