Steven Hartley Collins

Steven Hartley Collins is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and, by courtesy, of Bioengineering at Stanford University. He teaches courses on design and robotics and directs the Stanford Biomechatronics Laboratory. His research focuses on the design and prescription of prostheses and exoskeletons, as well as efficient autonomous devices such as energy-efficient walking robots and exoskeletons that reduce metabolic energy cost. Prof. Collins received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He was a professor at Carnegie Mellon University for seven years before joining Stanford in 2017. He is a member of the Scientific Board of Dynamic Walking and the Editorial Board of Science Robotics.
