Zhiyong Jason Ren

Zhiyong Jason Ren is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment at Princeton University. His research focuses on Sustainable, Resilient Cities and Infrastructure Systems, Water, Climate and Energy, Chemistry, Biology and Technology. He is also an Associate Director for Research at the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment. Ren's work explores the Water-Energy Nexus, particularly in water sector decarbonization and resource recovery through processes such as water and CO2 electrolysis, wastewater treatment and reuse, water desalination, remediation, and carbon capture and utilization. He utilizes electrochemistry, microbiology, AI/machine learning, and system engineering tools to enhance design, operation, and monitoring of these systems. Ren collaborates across disciplines and has published in journals such as Nature Sustainability, Nature Climate Change, and Environmental Science & Technology.
