Alfonso Bueno-Orovio

Alfonso Bueno-Orovio is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of Oxford, Department of Computer Science. His research focuses on the interplay between cardiac function and structure in modulating deadly arrhythmias in the human heart, computer modelling and simulation towards a reduction and replacement of animals in research, and advanced mathematical modelling for cardiac tissue and magnetic resonance imaging. He is a Basic Science Research Fellow of the British Heart Foundation and Principal Investigator of the Oxford BHF Centre of Research Excellence. His work integrates clinical and experimental data with computational models to investigate cardiac arrhythmias and develop therapeutic targets.

Alfonso Bueno-Orovio is a computational scientist specializing in Computational Cardiology, Cardiac Electrophysiology, Cardiac Modelling, and Modelling and Simulation. His research focuses on developing and applying mathematical and computational models to understand and predict cardiac function, particularly in the context of drug-induced pro-arrhythmia, cardiac electrophysiology, and disease mechanisms. His work includes the development of human ventricular myocyte models, in silico drug trials, and the simulation of electrocardiographic signals. He has also explored the role of structural heterogeneity in cardiac electrical propagation and the impact of genetic and physiological variability on cardiac electrophysiology.
