Regular biography
Richard Borowsky is an Emeritus Professor of Biology at New York University, affiliated with the Department of BIO. His research interests focus on the evolution and genetics of cave fish, particularly the molecular and developmental bases of adaptation, including the 'eyeless' condition. His work involves genomic mapping of quantitative trait loci (QTL) responsible for developmental changes in eyes, pigmentation, and metabolism in Astyanax cave fish from Mexico, as well as molecular phylogenetic studies of balitorid cave fishes in Southeast Asia. The laboratory conducts field research in Thailand, Mexico, and Brazil. He is affiliated with several scientific societies, including the American Society of Human Genetics and the Society for the Study of Evolution.
