Katie Gesmundo

Regular biography

Katie Gesmundo is an Associate Professor of Instruction and Co-Director of the General Chemistry Laboratory at Northwestern University's Department of Chemistry. She holds a B.S. and B.S.Ed. from Ashland University and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her work focuses on developing resources and strategies to enhance the teaching of general and analytical chemistry. She designs lab experiments that encourage undergraduates to engage in scientific inquiry and employs scaffolded assessments and metacognition strategies to improve student belonging and value in the scientific community. She is also dedicated to training graduate teaching assistants in research-based pedagogy.
