William Dichtel

William Dichtel is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Northwestern University. His research integrates synthetic and polymer chemistry to create porous materials and two-dimensional polymers with applications in separations, energy storage, and sustainability. His work includes the development of cyclodextrin-based porous polymers for water purification and the creation of new methods for recycling thermoset polyurethanes. Dichtel has also contributed to the establishment of 2D covalent organic frameworks and reported the first mechanically interlocked two-dimensional polymer. His research has led to commercial products, including DEXSORB® technology from cyclopure, which he founded in 2016.
