Regular biography
Phillip A. Sharp is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focuses on gene expression in mammalian cells, including transcription, non-coding RNAs, and RNA splicing. He has contributed significantly to the study of microRNAs and their regulatory roles in gene expression. Sharp is also involved in exploring transcriptional processes such as divergent transcription and the interplay between transcription elongation, RNA splicing, and chromatin modifications. His work has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1993. He maintains an active research profile through his affiliation with the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research.
