William Chip Quinn is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Biology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research focused on the molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying learning and memory in fruit flies. Before retiring, Quinn analyzed how fruit flies learn to avoid specific chemical odors associated with electric shock and retain this memory for several days. His work included investigating single-gene mutations affecting learning and memory, as well as engineering transgenic fly strains to disrupt these processes. Quinn is no longer accepting students.
