Nancy Hopkins is a Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, affiliated with the Department of Biology. Her research has focused on the genetics of mouse RNA tumor viruses, early vertebrate development using zebrafish, and cancer modeling. She became an assistant professor at MIT’s Center for Cancer Research in 1973, where she worked on mapping RNA tumor virus genes and developing tools for zebrafish research. Hopkins also pioneered methods for large-scale insertional mutagenesis, identifying essential genes for zebrafish development and cancer predisposition. She is currently involved in advocacy for cancer prevention and early detection research.
