Harvey F. Lodish

Regular biography

Harvey F. Lodish is a Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), affiliated with the Department of Biology. He is also a Founding Member of the Whitehead Institute. His research has focused on the development of red blood cells, brown and white fat cells, and the use of modified red cells for therapeutic applications. He has contributed significantly to molecular cell biology and biotechnology, including cloning and characterizing proteins, microRNAs, and long noncoding RNAs involved in red cell development and function. Lodish has mentored numerous students and continues to teach award-winning courses on biotechnology. He closed his lab in 2020 and is no longer accepting students.
