Stephen Bell is a Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, affiliated with the Department of Biology. He is the Uncas and Helen Whitaker Professor of Biology and an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His research focuses on the cellular machinery involved in the replication and maintenance of animal cell chromosomes, particularly the events at the starting points of chromosome duplication. Bell's work examines the assembly of replisomes and how these processes are regulated during the cell cycle to ensure genome stability. His research includes studies on DNA replication origins and the mechanisms governing their licensing.
