William Knottenbelt

Professor William J. Knottenbelt is a Professor of Applied Quantitative Analysis in the Department of Computing at Imperial College London. His research focuses on mathematical modelling and optimisation, including parallel queueing systems, resource allocation, Markov models, decentralised finance, blockchain, and cryptocurrencies. He is the Director of the Imperial College Centre for Cryptocurrency Research and Engineering and Director of Computer Science for the Brevan Howard Centre for Financial Analysis. His work includes expert witness roles in cryptocurrency and blockchain, and he has led several research projects funded by EPSRC and Innovate UK. He also contributes to academic and professional service through editorial roles and conference organisation.

His research spans both theoretical and applied aspects of performance and security in distributed systems.
