Regular biography
Dan Freed is the Shiing-Shen Chern Professor of Mathematics and Director of the Center of Mathematical Sciences and Applications (CMSA) at Harvard University. He is affiliated with the Department of Mathematics. His research interests include geometry and global analysis, with connections to theoretical physics, particularly quantum field theory, string theory, and condensed matter theory. Freed has contributed to areas such as determinant line bundles, Chern-Simons theory, and twisted K-theory. He has given numerous lectures and seminars, including Perimeter Institute and CBMS lectures, and has published papers on arXiv. He also teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in mathematics, including differential geometry, topology, and quantum theory.
