Lene V. Hau is the Mallinckrodt Professor of Physics and of Applied Physics at Harvard University, affiliated with the Department of Physics. She is also the Academic Dean for Education in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Prior to joining Harvard in 1999, Hau was a Senior Scientist at the Rowland Institute for Science. She holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Aarhus, Denmark. Hau led a team that slowed a pulse of light to 15 miles per hour and stopped and revived light pulses, achieving quantum control of light and matter. Her research spans ultra-cold atoms, superfluid Bose-Einstein condensates, and high-energy electron and positron channeling. She has received numerous awards, including the 2001 MacArthur Fellowship and several honorary doctorates.
