Bertrand I. Halperin is the Hollis Professor of Mathematicks and Natural Philosophy, Emeritus, in the Department of Physics at Harvard University. His research interests include condensed matter theory and statistical physics, with a focus on static and dynamic critical phenomena, quantum antiferromagnets, superconductivity, and transport in inhomogeneous media. His work has also addressed two-dimensional electron systems in strong magnetic fields, known as quantum Hall systems, and the theory of electron states in small particles of metal or semiconductor. Much of his research has been influenced by experiments conducted at Harvard.
