Luisa Hiller

N. Luisa Hiller is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University. Her research focuses on bacterial pathogenesis, comparative genomics, intercellular communication, strain evolution, and biofilms. Her laboratory investigates the role of bacteria in both health and disease, with a particular emphasis on the commensal pathogen Streptococcus pneumoniae. Using comparative genomics, bioinformatics, and phylogenetics, her work explores genomic diversity and plasticity in bacterial isolates from clinical infections. She also examines factors influencing genomic changes and molecular mechanisms of inter- and intra-species communication and host interactions.
