Kemal Celik

Kemal Celik is an Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at New York University in Abu Dhabi and holds an appointment with New York University, Tandon School of Engineering as Global Network Assistant Professor. He is the director of the Advanced Materials and Building Efficiency Research Laboratory (AMBER Lab) at NYU Abu Dhabi. His research focuses on construction materials and building energy efficiency to develop sustainable and multi-functional structural materials. His research interests include characterization and development of sustainable and energy-efficient construction materials, low carbon cements, alkali-activated cementitious materials, multi-functional building envelopes, and prediction and evaluation of daylight distribution through complex fenestration systems with a hybrid-simulation integrating physical- and computational-based data.

Kemal Celik is a researcher at New York University, focusing on construction materials with an emphasis on sustainable and high-performance concrete. His work explores the use of alternative materials such as fly ash, volcanic pozzolan, and limestone powder to replace traditional Portland cement. Celik's research also investigates the mechanical properties, durability, and life-cycle assessment of novel cementitious composites, including reactive MgO cement and geopolymeric binders. His studies cover hydration, carbonation, and microstructural evolution of cement-based materials, with a focus on reducing environmental impact through carbonation and CO2 utilization. Additionally, he examines the influence of water-to-binder ratios and superplasticizers on material performance.
