Hatice Gunes

Prof Hatice Gunes is a Fellow at the University of Cambridge's Department of Computer Science and Technology. She is the Full Professor of Affective Intelligence and Robotics and Director of the AFAR Lab. Her research focuses on multimodal, social, and affective intelligence for AI systems, particularly embodied agents and robots. She is also an Associate Director of the Centre for Human-Inspired Artificial Intelligence (CHIA) and a Staff Fellow of Trinity Hall Cambridge. Prof Gunes is a member of the Centre for Science and Policy (CSaP) Network. Her work integrates Machine Learning, Affective Computing, Social Signal Processing, and Human Nonverbal Behaviour Understanding.

Hatice Gunes is a Full Professor of Affective Intelligence & Robotics at the University of Cambridge, specializing in Artificial Intelligence with a focus on Affective AI, Health AI, AI Fairness, and Socially Assistive Robotics. Her research explores automatic analysis of facial and bodily affect, continuous emotion recognition, and multimodal emotion prediction. She investigates bias and fairness in facial expression recognition and develops systems for human-robot interactions, emphasizing the importance of nonverbal cues in understanding and modeling affect. Her work includes creating databases for affective behavior analysis and building autonomous artificial listeners capable of interpreting human emotions in real-world settings.
