Charles Walkden

Charles Walkden is a Reader in Pure Mathematics at The University of Manchester, School of Mathematics. His research focuses on ergodic theory and dynamical systems. He joined the university in 1997, initially as a post-doctoral researcher, and previously earned his PhD from the University of Warwick in 1997 under the supervision of Bill Parry. Walkden supervises PhD students and serves as programme director for the MSc in Pure Mathematics. His research includes contributions to iterated function systems, skew products, and invariant measures, with publications in journals such as Dynamical Systems and Nonlinearity.

Charles Walkden is a researcher at the University of Manchester with a focus on ergodic theory, hyperbolic dynamics, and related areas. His work explores the regularity of invariant graphs over hyperbolic systems, Livsic theorems for hyperbolic flows and connected Lie groups, and the stability of cocycles in dynamical systems. He also investigates invariance principles for iterated maps that contract on average and the stochastic stability of invariant measures. His research includes the study of topological Wiener–Wintner ergodic theorems and the Hausdorff dimension of random invariant graphs. Walkden's contributions span both theoretical and applied aspects of ergodic theory and hyperbolic geometry.
