William Lionheart

William Lionheart is Professor of Applied Mathematics at The University of Manchester, Department of Mathematics. His research focuses on inverse problems, particularly in imaging applications across industry, security, medicine, and non-destructive testing. He collaborates with several research centres, including the Henry Mosley Centre for X-ray Imaging and the Centre for Land Mine research. William Robert Breckon is the Lionheart Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Manchester, specializing in inverse problems. His research focuses on electrical impedance tomography (EIT), with an emphasis on reconstruction algorithms, data analysis, and imaging techniques. He has contributed significantly to the development of software tools for EIT, including EIDORS, and has explored challenges such as nonuniqueness, model shape mismatch, and regularization methods. His work also extends to magnetic resonance–electrical impedance tomography (MR–EIT) and diffusion-based optical tomography.
