Regular biography
Nico Gray is Professor of Applied Mathematics at The University of Manchester, affiliated with the Department of Mathematics. His research focuses on granular flows in both natural and industrial environments, including snow avalanches, debris flows, and granular materials in silos and rotating drums. Gray is also Deputy Director of the Manchester Centre for Nonlinear Dynamics, a joint institute between the School of Mathematics and the School of Physics & Astronomy. He graduated with a first-class degree in Mathematics from The University of Manchester in 1988 and was awarded a PhD in sea-ice dynamics by Cambridge University in 1992. Gray has held various academic positions at The University of Manchester, including Lectureship (1998), Senior Lecturer (2003), Reader (2004), and a personal chair (2006). His work involves theoretical, numerical, and experimental approaches to study granular flows and their dynamics.
