Nigel Scrutton

Nigel Scrutton is Professor of Molecular Enzymology, Chemical Biology and Biological Chemistry at The University of Manchester, Department of Chemistry. His research interests include biological catalysis, synthetic biology, and biomolecular engineering, with a focus on enzyme mechanisms, biophysical methods, and the application of these principles to industrial biotechnology and drug discovery. He is Director of the EPSRC Future Biomanufacturing Research Hub and the BBSRC-funded Synthetic Biology Research Centre 'SYNBIOCHEM'. He is also a Founding Director of C3 BIOTECH Ltd and its subsidiary company C3 BIOTECH (Maritime and Aerospace) Ltd. His work involves the study of enzyme catalysis, quantum tunnelling, and the development of biophysical techniques to investigate enzyme mechanisms and photoreceptor action.
