About
Regular biography

Jason Micklefield is Professor of Chemical Biology within the School of Chemistry and the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology at The University of Manchester. His research focuses on developing sustainable bio-inspired methods to build molecules through interdisciplinary Chemical and Synthetic Biology research. The Micklefield Lab explores biosynthesis and pathway engineering to create novel bioactive natural products, particularly new antibiotics to combat antimicrobial resistance and treat neglected diseases. They also investigate biocatalysis and integrated catalysis, merging chemo- and biocatalytic approaches for sustainable pharmaceutical production. Additionally, the lab works on nucleic acids chemistry and biology, including the development of nucleic acid therapeutics and functional tools like riboswitches and aptamers.
