Regular biography
David Leys is a Professor of Structural Biology at The University of Manchester, Department of Chemistry. His research focuses on macromolecular structure and function, utilizing x-ray crystallography to investigate how protein structure influences function. His work explores enzyme mechanisms, protein interactions, and structural insights for biotechnological applications. Leys has contributed to understanding interprotein electron transfer, substrate channelling, and enzymatic H-tunneling. His group investigates proteins of biotechnological interest, including those involved in biofuel production. Recent studies have uncovered new roles for vitamins B2 and B12. His research has been supported by funding from BBSRC, ERC, the Royal Society, and industry, with a team comprising postdoctoral scientists and PhD students.
