Nicholas Chilton

Nicholas Chilton is a Professor of Computational and Theoretical Chemistry at The University of Manchester. His research focuses on computational and theoretical chemistry, with an emphasis on lanthanide complexes and their magnetic properties. Prof. Chilton obtained his BSc Adv Hons from Monash University in 2011 and his PhD from The University of Manchester in 2015. He has received several awards, including the Dalton Young Researchers Award and the Harrison-Meldola Memorial Prize. His group is currently funded by the ERC and The Royal Society. His work contributes to Sustainable Development Goals 7 and 9.

Nicholas F Chilton is a Professor of Chemistry at the Australian National University and The University of Manchester, with research interests spanning Chemistry, Physics, and Magnetism. His work focuses on molecular magnetism, particularly the design and characterization of single-molecule magnets (SMMs) with high magnetic anisotropy barriers. He investigates the magnetic properties of lanthanide and transition metal complexes, including their magnetic hysteresis, relaxation behavior, and quantum tunnelling of magnetization. His research also explores the role of ligand fields in determining magnetic susceptibility anisotropy and paramagnetic NMR shifts. Chilton's contributions include the development of computational tools for magnetic analysis and the synthesis of novel SMMs with potential applications in high-temperature magnetic storage.
