Ruth Wood

Dr Ruth Wood is a Senior Lecturer in Environment and Climate Change at The University of Manchester, Department of Civil Engineering. Her research focuses on emissions and energy accounting methods across sectors and spatial scales, scenario tools for interdisciplinary projects, and the relationship between society and infrastructure in relation to climate resilience. She is a Research Fellow with the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and Co-Director of the EPSRC Power Networks Centre for Doctoral Training. Her work includes projects such as the EPSRC-funded MYStore Project on energy storage and the RESNET project on resilient electricity networks. She has contributed to climate change risk assessments and published in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.

Frances Ruth Wood's research focuses on climate change mitigation, resilience, and energy systems. Her work explores strategies for decarbonizing critical sectors such as aviation, shipping, and road freight, with an emphasis on achieving global warming targets of 1.5–2°C. She investigates the role of emerging technologies like Flettner rotors in reducing emissions from maritime transport and analyzes the impacts of climate change on energy demand. Wood also examines the resilience of power systems and the integration of greenhouse gas and air pollutant emission reductions at the local level. Her research highlights the importance of non-CO2 emissions in carbon management and the spatial distribution of aviation emissions.
