Majid Sedighi

Majid Sedighi is a Reader in Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Manchester, Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering. His research focuses on geoenvironmental engineering, particularly the coupled thermal, hydraulic, chemical, and mechanical behaviour of geo-materials. He has supervised 16 PhD students and has developed over 60 research outputs, including 30 peer-reviewed journal papers. Sedighi has received two Best Paper Awards, including the ICE’s Environmental Geotechnics Prize in 2019. He is also the Head of Internationalisation (Africa and the Middle East) at the Faculty of Science and Engineering and a member of the Advisory Panel of Géotechnique. His current research projects address environmental challenges related to geothermal energy, clean water access, and contaminant removal in soil and water.

Majid Sedighi is a Reader in Geo-Environmental Engineering at The University of Manchester, specializing in the environmental impact and management of contaminants in geotechnical systems. His research focuses on the behavior of pollutants in porous media, including the adsorption and transport of volatile organic compounds, the influence of heavy metals on bentonite, and the role of moisture in crack propagation. Sedighi also investigates the use of biochar and MOF composites for pollution control and the thermal effects on chemical diffusion in saturated and unsaturated porous media. His work addresses environmental challenges in geothermal energy, microplastic removal, and the degradation of buffering capacity in bentonite.
