Regular biography
Diarmaid Clery is a Lecturer in Engineering for Net Zero at the University of Manchester, affiliated with the Civil Engineering department. His research focuses on the technical, social, and policy challenges of industrial decarbonisation and carbon dioxide removal (CDR). He collaborates with stakeholders and communities across the UK’s industrial clusters to understand the factors shaping the social licence to operate for decarbonisation technologies. With a background in engineering and experience in both the energy industry and academia, Diarmaid’s work aims to address the interdisciplinary challenges of combating climate change, including decarbonisation and CDR, and to support an equitable and sustainable transition to net zero. He engages with policymakers to bridge the gap between research and governance.
