Dr Ewen D D Calder is a Chancellor's Fellow (Health and Life) at The University of Edinburgh, affiliated with the School of Chemistry and the Institute for Regeneration and Repair. His research focuses on the use of the Random non-standard Peptide Integrated Discovery (RaPID) system of mRNA display to discover novel peptide-based chemical tools. This approach enables the screening of vast libraries of macrocyclic peptides against protein targets, generating compounds with high binding affinity and selectivity. His work also involves the incorporation of unnatural amino acids into peptides to enhance their potency and stability. Calder's research targets enzymes involved in SUMOylation, a post-translational modification critical for various cellular processes and implicated in several diseases.
