Dr Nicholle G. A. Bell is an NERC Independent Research Fellow at The University of Edinburgh, Department of Chemistry. Her research focuses on the application of NMR spectroscopy and FT-ICR mass spectrometry in environmental sciences, particularly in the characterisation of peatlands and analysis of complex mixtures. Her work addresses the degradation and restoration of peatlands, aiming to understand the molecular mechanisms that enable carbon storage and ecosystem services. Bell's research contributes to the Soil Security Programme, developing metrics to assess peatland status globally. Her work includes NMR methodology development and the study of protective molecules in peatlands.
