Sang-il Oum (엄상일)

Sang-il Oum is a Professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS). He is the Chief Investigator of the Discrete Mathematics Group at IBS, based in Daejeon, South Korea. His research interests include Graph Theory, Matroid Theory, Combinatorics, and Parameterized Complexity. Oum earned his Ph.D. in Applied and Computational Mathematics from Princeton University in 2005, with Paul Seymour as his advisor. He has held academic positions at KAIST, KIAS, and the University of Waterloo, and has contributed to various editorial roles in mathematics journals.

His research focuses on width parameters such as rank-width, branch-width, and clique-width, and their applications in graph decomposition and structural graph theory.
