Regular biography
Pablo Shmerkin is a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at The University of British Columbia. He obtained his undergraduate degree (Licenciatura) at the University of Buenos Aires and his PhD at the University of Washington, under the supervision of Boris Solomyak. He joined UBC as a professor in 2020. His research focuses on fractal geometry and geometric measure theory, with connections to ergodic theory, real and harmonic analysis, combinatorics, probability, and number theory. He received the UMALCA prize in 2016 and the MCA prize in 2017. His pronouns are he/him. He is also interested in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (EDI) issues and is a member of the Mathematics Department's EDI committee.
