Alejandro Adem

Regular biography

Alejandro Adem is a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at The University of British Columbia. His research interests include algebra and topology, with specific focus areas such as cohomology of groups, group actions, arithmetic groups, K-theory, orbifolds, homotopy theory, and spaces of representations. Adem has supervised numerous PhD students and postdoctoral fellows at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and UBC. He has held various leadership roles, including Director of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences and President of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada. Adem has authored over 70 articles and two books, and has delivered more than 400 invited research lectures globally.
