Regular biography
Mark Mac Lean is a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at The University of British Columbia. His research interests include Geometry, Analysis, asymptotic homotopy, and a π₁ de Rham Theorem. He is also engaged in research focused on how students learn mathematics, including projects that use comparative judgment to study learning outcomes. He co-developed ComPAIR, an open education resource for implementing comparative judgment exercises. He is involved in writing children's stories, 'Adventures of Small Number,' to encourage interest in mathematics, collaborating with Veselin Jungic at SFU. He is on the organizing committee for the Indigenising University Mathematics (IUM) conference series. He has received several awards, including the Canadian Mathematical Society Adrien Pouliot Award in Mathematics Education (2015), the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) Education Prize (2012), and the Killam Teaching Prize (2005).
