Kristin Orians

Kristin Orians is a Faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at The University of British Columbia. Her research focuses on the distributions of trace elements in seawater, particularly the study of particle-reactive elements such as Al, Ga, In, Ti, Zr, Hf, Fe, and Mn. She investigates the biogeochemical cycles of these metals and their roles in oceanic processes. Orians develops advanced analytical techniques for detecting picomolar levels of dissolved metals in seawater, utilizing methods such as graphite-furnace atomic absorption spectroscopy and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry. Her work also includes speciation analysis to understand the chemical forms of metals in marine environments.
