Gordon Bates is a Faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at The University of British Columbia. His research interests include liquid crystals and related chemical systems. He has contributed to various publications in the field, focusing on topics such as nematic liquid crystals, deuteron nuclear magnetic resonance, and synthetic organic chemistry. Dr. Bates has been recognized for his teaching excellence, including the Catalyst Award for National Excellence in Chemistry Teaching in 1997 and the Chemical Institute of Canada Chemical Education Award in 2006.
