About
Regular biography

George Sawatzky is a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at The University of British Columbia. His research program focuses on the fabrication and theoretical and spectroscopic study of novel complex systems and nanostructured materials. The goal is to develop new approaches and understanding in the quantum theory of solids and define new pathways for the fabrication of materials with innovative physical properties. His work centers on the electronic structure of strongly correlated electron systems, both in bulk and ultra-thin film forms. He uses high-energy and high-resolution spectroscopies combined with many-body theoretical modeling to develop a microscopic description of macroscopic physical properties of solids.
