Christopher Martin is the Edward C. Stone Professor of Physics and Director of the Caltech Optical Observatories at the California Institute of Technology. He is affiliated with the Division of Physics, Mathematics and Astronomy. His research focuses on galaxy evolution, the intergalactic medium, and experimental astrophysics. Martin's work involves imaging emission from the intergalactic medium to understand gas flow into and out of galaxies. He leads projects to develop instruments such as the Palomar Cosmic Web Imager and the Keck Cosmic Web Imager, aiming to detect and map cosmic web emission from the epoch of reionization to the present day.
