John Harrison is a Professor in the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering at the University of Toronto. He holds the W.M. Keck Chair in Engineering Mechanics and is affiliated with the Lassonde Mineral Engineering Program. His research focuses on rock mechanics, mining engineering, and geomechanics, particularly the unpredictability of fractured rock masses in engineering design. Harrison joined the university in 2010 from Imperial College, UK, and serves as the convenor of a pan-European group examining rock engineering design within Eurocode 7. He is a UK Chartered Civil Engineer and has published extensively in his field. His work includes consulting for civil, mining, and petroleum engineering sectors.
