Bibhu Mohanty

Bibhu Mohanty is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on Mining & Geomechanics, Dynamic Fracture, and Rock Fracture. Prior to his current position, he held the NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Rock Dynamics and Fragmentation. His work addresses the complexities of dynamic fracture behavior of rock under high-energy transient loads, with applications in mining and civil engineering. He has published extensively on topics including blast-induced fractures, fragmentation, and explosion hazards. His research emphasizes the interaction between transient loads and rock properties, aiming to improve safety and efficiency in excavation activities.
